We've just returned from meeting my dad and Lukey the Wonder Nephew at a train and toy show. It was pretty awesome; if you're into model trains and miniature railroads and Lego villages, castles and working carnival scenes! (And come on, who the hell isn't?)
There's something about a model train set that I find oddly fascinating. My grandfather used to have one and as a child I was always intrigued by it. Even now, when I watch the older Thomas and Friends episodes, the live-action ones where they used actual trains with moving eyes; there's something so relaxing and hypnotic (albeit a little frightening) about it. (Incidentally, what is it about antique toys that sometimes makes them terrifying? Am I mental?)
If money and shelf space were no object, I might have purchased that interesting set of Gone With The Wind Barbie's I was eyeing (they had The Wizard of Oz, too!), and definitely a John McClane action figure for Hubby. Because every home needs one of those.
We were pretty brave to take W to a train and toy show right before his naptime, without remembering to bring along any snacks, sippy cup or binky. (Did I say brave? I meant idiotic.) But aside from a smallish meltdown (or two) at the eleventh hour, we had a really nice time. Any day I get to spend time with my baby and godson is a good one in my book. My Sweet William is napping as I type this, fast asleep on his Thomas the Tank Engine sheets. No doubt he is dreaming about his big cousin Luke, the Big Bird Express, Lego ferris wheels and trains chugging through miniature cow pastures.
Time to go set up that train set my dad bought for him. I'm think I'm more excited about it than W! Maybe it will wrap around our Christmas tree! I've always longed for a train to chug around our Christmas tree, only I didn't realize it until I became Will's mom. Choo! Choo! xoxo
