On Saturday my friend Vanessa and I ventured out into the steamy rain to see the Sex and the City movie. Reader, I have to say, it was a blissfully perfect way to while away a Saturday afternoon.
The air in the cinema was laden with excitement, estrogen and the smell of buttery popcorn. Indeed, we were a bit surprised by the sheer quantity of women waiting in line, all of them dolled up in their Saturday finest. When the mood of the crowd seemed to have reached a boiling point, I turned to Vanessa and marveled at what joiners we were being, braving not only the crowds but also the afternoon's 80 percent humidity. "Ya," she agreed, "We must really want to see this."
One of the few men in the theater just happened to be sitting behind us, providing snarky, catty commentary throughout. Seriously dude, if you're going to hate, don't ruin it for the rest of us! What the hell was he doing there anyway? Nasty thing. I desperately wanted to call him a dirty bastard, Samantha Jones style, but I'm currently reading A New Earth and trying my best to be good.
As for the movie, was it everything we'd hoped it would be and more? It was. Without giving away any details, we laughed out loud, we gasped, we cried, and laughed out loud again. The audience applauded at both the opening and closing credits. This film delivered, on every level! I can't think of a more comforting way of passing two and a half hours than sitting there and watching that movie with my dear old friend. Wine guzzling, discussion and spontaneous dancing were to follow, of course, but these events always seem to unfold when Vanessa and I get together. Even, I fear, if we are the only ones who happen to be spontaneously dancing. (If either of us ever decide to have children, this is so going to embarrass them someday.)
That afternoon we sauntered out of the theater, sighing contentedly, already making plans to see it again. xoxo

Karen and I are planning on seeing the movie on Wednesday...I can't wait...I also can't wait to see it with you when you move north...although, I'm not sure I want to watch sex scenes with my daughter even though we lived through that stupid play about a man falling in love with a goat! love, me

That sounds like a perfect Saturday. How fun!!
PS- You were right, Emma- there IS an American version of Kath and Kim coming out. I heard about it last week. My sister and I are kind of upset. I hope they don't spoil that hilarious show!
Have a blast on Saturday!
